Pre-Chalk Paint Project

I have seen so many ideas that involve "Chalk Paint." Not to be confused with chalkboard paint; it's a different type of paint. Chalk paint has a finish that gives furniture more of a matte texture, which makes them look like antiques. I have even seen tutorials on using chalk paint to paint fabric. I want to do that, but decided that I need some experience with chalk paint first. The most popular brand of paint on Pinterest is Annie Sloan - but that is a little expensive and I wanted to try something without spending a ton of money on paint.

I have an old dresser that I put in the "craft room" and I think it is the perfect item to try the chalk paint on! I picked up an 8 oz. container at my local Home Depot! The brand is: Americana Decor - the color is "everlasting." It was only $8.48 (at my local Home Depot). Not bad at all!   :)

This is the dresser I'm going to paint! I also plan on replacing the knobs/handles. I can't wait to finish this project and show you guys the results!

Weekend Recap

Just when I thought I was feeling better, I woke up Saturday morning feeling worse than ever. That's the only bad thing about this time of the year, getting colds/flu.  

I had planned on and was excited to go to the monthly DAR meeting Saturday morning, but there was no way I could leave the house. Besides, I would have felt terrible if I got anyone else sick! Ain't nobody got time for that!

I made sure to have my Young Living diffuser/humidifier on with the Thieves oil. The Thieves oil is supposed to help with the immune system.
To make the best of being sick, I figured it would be a great time to chill out, read, knit, and color!

I began knitting a second scarf! The yarn is Lion Brand and it is a gorgeous mixture of colors, which reminds me of the colors on a Peacock, although the name of it is "Caribbean."

Sunday was another lazy day, but at least I felt better than I did Saturday. I finished my second scarf! It turned out absolutely perfect! I couldn't be happier with it!

It's difficult to really see the colors of the scarf in a picture. In person, the scarf is more vibrant. 

Since I was feeling a little bit better, I tried to do a little Winter cleaning. I found my old iPhone boxes and thought they would be perfect to use for more storage. The other day at the Dollar Tree, I bought this adorable Valentine's Day duct tape for a $1 and figured it would be perfect for covering the boxes and use them as trays! They turned out better than expected! The boxes are adorable and perfect for decor AND storage. 3 adorable box/trays for $1?! Heck yeah!!

Honestly, the boxes look like something I would have bought at some store, like Target. I'm going to keep an eye out for more boxes to make more!

DIY Organization Project

I'm the kind of person that throws items into a drawer until it accumulates into a Bermuda triangle and nothing can be found ever again. 

I'm constantly forgetting where I put things, and end up forgetting about them or buying it again and wasting money. After checking out Pinterest, I was inspired to become more organized. 

Pinterest has tons of wonderful pins regarding organizing on a budget. Some of my favorite ideas had a lot of items that can be purchased from The Dollar Tree! Of course, after pinning a million pins, I decided to run to my local Dollar Tree and see what they had to offer.
I was so impressed! I picked up a basket (should have grabbed a cart) and started looking around. First off, I was drawn to all the new Valentine's Day and St. Patrick's Day items that had on display. I took my time wandering in each aisle, making sure I wasn't missing anything! 

I guess I am glad I didn't grab a cart because I definitely would have bought a LOT more stuff.

This is the pin I kept in mind while shopping - I love the tiered tray! It's perfect for miscellaneous jewelry, and trinkets!

So I bought the glass candle holders and silver serving plates to make it look a little bit more fancy.

Instead of leaving the top tray empty, I put a different candle holder on the top. I can't decide which candle holder to use on the top! I plan on putting pretty flowers in the candle holders at the top. I think an LED candle would look cute in the holder as well. I like the way they both look! Which one do you think looks better?! The vintage inspired candle holder or the mercury glass candle holder? 

Once I finally decide on which one to use, I will hot glue them in place.

I picked up a few other candle holders as well because I know I will use them all around the house for decor & storage! 

I love both of these candle holders for bathroom storage! I'm certainly going back for more of these!!

A New Day, A New Juice

I'm sure you can tell, but I have decided that my 2016 is going to be full of trying new things, and crafts....lots of crafts. It's pretty exciting already! :)

This morning I decided to try a different juice recipe! I went with the tomato, carrot, pepper, and parsley recipe. Honestly, I have never been a fan of vegetable juice in the past (like V8), but I really wanted to try it out and see if my tastes have changed.

I made plenty of juice!

Well...

The juice actually wasn't as bad as I thought it would be, but it definitely isn't something I would drink everyday. I may drink it in a "shot" form so I get my nutrients from the veggies, but that's going to be the only way I drink it. Maybe my body can't handle cold vegetable taste. Maybe I will have to warm it up and try it as a soup instead of drinking it cold.

Enough about the juice.

While I was out running errands, I found this cute Valentine's Day piece at Jo-Ann Fabrics and couldn't resist picking it up! I'm a sucker for anything arts & crafts - especially painting related! :)

My project would not be complete without glitter!

Yes, I already hung it on our front door. It is too cute not to share! Besides, after New Years, January can be so boring without all the beautiful lights and decorations...so why not start putting up Valentine's Day decor early to spruce up January and February?
